Take part as a student
The coding challenge window will be open from 24 March 2025 to 4 April 2025. Participation requires supervision, and your supervisor (e.g. teacher) will inform you of the exact date and time for your session.
How can I take part?
If you took part in the UK Bebras Challenge in November 2024, you are eligible to participate in the coding challenge. However, you must be supervised to take part, so you will only be able to enter if your Bebras coordinator (e.g. your teacher) is available to run the challenge. If you are a home educated student who participated, we will contact your parent or guardian directly with more information.
When the coding challenge is live, and your teacher (or coordinator) is available to supervise the event, they will give you your username and password. With these credentials, you'll be all set to participate in the coding challenge! Your teacher (or coordinator) will inform you of the exact date and time for your session.
Prepare for the coding challenge
The best way to prepare for the coding challenge is to practice extensively. The new challenge closely resembles the OUCC, which was previously the second stage for UK Bebras students. Past challenges are available for practice and can be accessed without registration or logging in on the challenges page of this site.
If your school is registered for UK Bebras, your teachers will also be able to access older challenges and assign them as quizzes for you to try.
You may find some of the older practice questions quite difficult. We are working hard to make this years challenge more accessible to a greater number of students.
Aim of the challenge
Your goal is to tackle as many tasks as possible within the 45-minute time frame to earn points. While the problems are tailored to your ability level, they're designed to provide a challenge. Don't fret if you can't complete them all – it's very rare for any student to solve every problem. If you find yourself stuck on a particular task, feel free to move on to the next one.
Scoring
We are currently reviewing the way that the challenge will be scored. We will publish information on this page when the scoring rubric is finalised.Rules
